American singer Olivia Rodrigo dropped some big news for fans. She is set to release the first single from her third album, “Drop Dead,” on April 17.

She posted the news Tuesday on Instagram, along with a photo of herself blowing a bubble with chewing gum — and the name of the new single written right on her shirt.

Last week, she announced her third album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love,” which will be released on June 12. She created the album in collaboration with producer Dan Nigro, who she has previously worked with on both Sour and Guts.

She hasn’t shared much about the album yet, but Rodrigo hinted at its themes in an interview with British Vogue. She said the album will feature “sad love songs.”

She told Vogue that writing from a place of happiness was a creative challenge. According to her, when you’re in a good place with someone or feeling good, you’re not thinking about bittersweet ideas.

Amel Mukhtar, a writer for British Vogue, described three songs from the album as highly emotional, cinematic, and intimate. One song is based on the feeling of finding the person of your dreams, while another captures that post-breakup feeling and is inspired by the relationship between Miranda Hobbes and Steve Brady from Sex and the City. The third song presents the idea that love does not fix everything and is created in a slightly experimental style.

According to Rodrigo, love forces you to look inward — where you can deeply understand your emotions, insecurities, and what actually makes you happy. She described it as something that can feel scary and raw, but at times also very beautiful.
