A24 has released the first trailer of The Invite. The movie is directed by Olivia Wilde and stars Seth Rogen, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton in lead roles. The movie is set to release in limited theaters on June 26.
This movie is part drama and part comedy, written by Will McCormack and Rashida Jones. The story follows a married couple, Joe and Angela, whose marriage is on the rocks. When they invite their mysterious upstairs neighbors to a dinner party, the night goes sideways fast. The story raises the question of whether this meeting will save their marriage or blow it all up.
When the movie debuted in January at the Sundance Film Festival, it landed with both crowds and buyers. According to reports, there was a multi-day bidding war among several major companies for the film, including Focus Features, Neon, Netflix, Apple, Searchlight Pictures, and Black Bear Pictures. Olivia Wilde also received a standing ovation at the festival after the screening.
