Oscar-winning actress makes direct appeal to industry at CNBC Changemakers Summit; SAG-AFTRA endorses Trump administration’s AI policy framework

Sandra Bullock — one of Hollywood’s most influential and box-office-proven actresses — has taken a clear and firm stance on the growing use of AI in the entertainment industry. Speaking at the CNBC Changemakers Summit, she urged her fellow film and television professionals to stop resisting the AI wave and instead embrace it “in a constructive and creative way.”
AI-Generated Trailer Sparks the Conversation
The remarks came as AI-generated fan-made trailers for “Practical Magic 2” were going viral across social media. Bullock addressed the videos with typical humor — “Well, there could be worse with my image. Sorry” — then turned serious. “It’s here. We have to observe it. We have to understand it. We have to lean into it. We have to use it in a really constructive and creative way, make it our friend,” she said. She added a note of caution: the technology must be monitored closely, given the potential for bad actors to exploit it.

Warner Bros. CEO Weighs In
Warner Bros. Motion Pictures Co-Chair and CEO Pam Abdy gave a mixed but measured response to the fan videos. While acknowledging the situation was not ideal, Abdy said the volume of AI-generated content signals real audience demand for the “Practical Magic” franchise — a good sign for the studio ahead of the sequel.
Warner Bros., a subsidiary of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD), is positioning “Practical Magic 2” as a big-ticket release. Bullock and Nicole Kidman are reuniting for the first time since the beloved 1998 romantic fantasy, with the sequel’s trailer making its industry debut at CinemaCon to a positive reception.
SAG-AFTRA Endorses Trump’s AI Framework
Meanwhile, SAG-AFTRA has formally endorsed the Trump administration’s AI policy framework, which calls on Congress to pass legislation protecting intellectual property rights, safeguarding First Amendment protections, expanding AI workforce development, allowing data centers to generate their own power, and dismantling legal barriers that impede AI innovation.
The union’s endorsement is a significant reversal. During the landmark 2023 strike, SAG-AFTRA took a hard line against the unchecked use of AI by studios — making this endorsement a significant industry moment.

Why This Matters for the Industry
Hollywood remains deeply divided on AI — caught between the legitimate concerns of creative workers and the studios’ pressure to cut costs. A public endorsement from an A-lister of Bullock’s stature means something and could change the conversation in an industry debate that has, until now, been driven by fear and resistance.
As generative AI tools move deeper into pre-production, visual effects, and marketing pipelines, the real question now is no longer whether AI belongs in Hollywood — but who gets to set the terms.
