At one of the biggest music festivals in the United States, Coachella, Italian-American DJ Anyma saw his highly anticipated performance disrupted by severe weather conditions, before still getting his moment with fans through a surprise set later in the weekend.
Anyma’s scheduled Friday night set, which was set to follow the Day 1 headlining performance by Sabrina Carpenter, was canceled due to strong winds. In Indio, wind speeds reached between 35 and 40 miles per hour, making it impossible to build the stage or run the full live setup.
Festival organizers issued a “schedule update” at 12:17 a.m., posting updates online and through the official app.
As one-half of the EDM duo Tale of Us, Anyma had planned to debut his new ÆDEN project — a massive show built around cutting-edge visuals and an insane stage setup. The production had been in development for over a year.
Taking to his X account on Saturday, he said he was gutted, describing the moment as emotionally difficult for both himself and his team, who’d all poured over a year into this thing.

In his statement, Anyma emphasized that safety had to come first, noting that the dangerous wind conditions made it impossible not only to build the stage but also to safely execute the performance. Initially, it was confirmed that no alternative slots were available during Coachella’s first weekend, and he stated that he did not want to interfere with other artists’ scheduled set times.
However, by the end of the weekend, things turned around. On Sunday night, Do Lab announced a surprise back-to-back set between Anyma and Berlin-based DJ and producer Marlon Hoffstadt at Coachella’s Do Lab stage. The performance began at 10:45 p.m. and ended up being one of the night’s best moments. Known for its experimental and unexpected programming, the Do Lab stage provided an opportunity for Anyma to reconnect with fans despite the earlier setback.
The sequence of events shows just how risky big production shows have gotten, particularly their vulnerability to environmental conditions. While advanced visuals and technical setups continue to take live shows to another level, they also make them way more vulnerable to things like weather. In this case, both Coachella organizers and Anyma’s team prioritized safety — which is just how it should be done.
Ultimately, although the cancellation of the main stage performance was a real gut punch, the surprise set allowed Anyma to maintain his connection with audiences — proving live music finds a way, no matter what.
