Ariana Grande just made it official. The pop superstar announced her eighth studio album, Petal, on Tuesday — and it’s dropping July 31 via Republic Records.

Along with the announcement, Grande dropped the album cover, and it’s already turning heads. The black-and-white photo shows her without her signature ponytail — brunette waves falling across her face as she smiles wide.

According to the Spotify countdown page, Petal will have 12 tracks total.

Grande co-wrote and executive produced the album alongside producer Ilya Salmanzadeh. If that name sounds familiar, it should — Ilya is a Swedish-Persian producer who’s worked closely with hitmaker Max Martin and co-produced a big chunk of Grande’s 2024 album Eternal Sunshine. His resume also includes hits with Taylor Swift and Sam Smith, and he co-wrote fan favorites like “Problem” and helped shape Sweetener and Thank U, Next.

In her announcement, Grande described Petal as “something that is full of life and growing through the cracks of something cold and hard and challenging.” She first teased those words on April 18 in an Instagram video — well before the official title reveal.

And the teasing didn’t stop there. For weeks, Grande dropped cryptic hints that had fans in full detective mode. First came an Instagram dump featuring a wilting white flower box. Then her face showed up in a daisy edit. Then a polaroid clip of a water-flooded street. The biggest clue? She tagged director Christian Breslauer — the same guy behind her Eternal Sunshine music videos — confirming something major was coming.

Petal will land right in the middle of Grande’s sold-out Eternal Sunshine Tour, which kicks off June 6 in Oakland. The North American run hits major cities including Austin, Atlanta, Brooklyn, and Chicago — and it’s a safe bet that new Petal tracks will make it into the setlist.

Here’s the thing though — Grande has hinted this could be her last tour for a very long time. On Amy Poehler’s Good Hang podcast back in November 2025, she said: “The last 10 or 15 years will look very different to the ones that are coming up. I don’t want to say anything definitive. But I think it might not happen again for a long, long, long, long, long time.” One last hurrah — and she’s going all in.

Petal is Grande’s first studio album since Eternal Sunshine, which dropped in March 2024 and scored three Grammy nominations. The new album arrives on the other side of a massive chapter — her critically acclaimed run as Glinda in Wicked and Wicked: For Good, plus some significant personal changes along the way.

Fans can pre-order Petal now in multiple formats — standard LP, CD, and cassette — plus an exclusive LP variant available only through her official store.
