Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner Billy Porter is sharing an emotional health update after a frightening battle with sepsis that forced him to step away from Broadway earlier this year.

In a heartfelt Instagram video posted during the holiday season, Porter revealed that he is now “on the road to a full recovery” following a serious case of urosepsis that landed him in the hospital this fall.

While he admitted he is not fully healed yet, the Pose star reassured fans that he is steadily improving after what he described as an incredibly difficult few months.

Opening the video by wishing followers a joyful holiday season, Porter then spoke candidly about his health scare.

“Some of you may or may not know that I was in the hospital very ill this fall with urosepsis,” he shared. “It was not easy. It’s been a very, very challenging four months.” His voice broke as he expressed deep gratitude to fans, saying he believes their prayers, love, and positive energy played a role in his survival. “I know that I’m alive today because of my fans,” he said.

The video’s caption echoed that message with a triumphant tone, reading, “She’s ALIVE!!! Proof of life, PTL!!!” — a phrase that quickly resonated with supporters in the comments.

Porter’s health issues led to an early end to his run as the Emcee in Broadway’s Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club. In early September, revival producer Adam Speers announced that Porter would withdraw from the production due to what he called a “serious case of sepsis.”

Shortly after, producers made the difficult decision to close the show earlier than planned, with its final performance moving up to September 21 instead of the originally scheduled October 19.

At the time, Speers praised the production and its legacy, calling it an honor to bring the iconic musical — with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Joe Masteroff — to New York audiences. During Porter’s absence, alternates Marty Lauter and David Merino stepped into the Emcee role.

Now focused on healing, Porter’s message is clear: recovery hasn’t been easy, but hope — and gratitude — are leading the way forward.
