Netflix has officially ordered the limited series “The Corrections,” with Meryl Streep set to star in the lead role. The show is based on the novel of the same name by Jonathan Franzen.

Franzen will adapt his book for the screen and will also serve as an executive producer. Streep will executive produce in addition to starring. Mark Roybal and Paul Lee will executive produce for wiip, alongside Nicole Clemens. Cord Jefferson is also attached as an executive producer and will direct all episodes. The series will be produced by Paramount Television Studios.

The story centers on a Midwestern family, where three grown siblings resist their mother’s wish to bring them together for one final Christmas. Each of them is struggling with misguided ambitions that were meant to help them avoid becoming like their parents.

“The Corrections” was originally published in 2001. This is not the first attempt to adapt the novel for the screen. A film version was previously in development but never came to fruition. Later, HBO commissioned a pilot in 2011 starring Chris Cooper, Dianne Wiest, and Ewan McGregor, but in 2012 it was reported that the project would not move forward as a series.

In recent years, Streep has taken on several television roles. She appeared in Seasons 3 and 4 of the Hulu comedy “Only Murders in the Building,” earning both Golden Globe and Emmy nominations. She also starred in HBO’s “Big Little Lies,” which brought her additional nominations.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest actresses of all time, Streep has received 21 Academy Award nominations—the most for any actor. She has won Oscars for “Kramer vs. Kramer,” “Sophie’s Choice,” and “The Iron Lady.”

The series marks another major project for Netflix, combining a strong cast with a critically acclaimed story.

Are you excited to watch “The Corrections” adaptation, and do you think the series will impress audiences?
