Rebecca Ferguson reveals her role in “Dune: Part Three” is just one scene, admitting she felt “FOMO” returning to a story she helped shape.

Rebecca Ferguson is stepping back into the sands of Arrakis—but only for a moment.
As anticipation builds for Dune: Part Three, the actress is offering a surprisingly modest preview of her involvement, and it comes with mixed emotions.
Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ferguson shared that her role in the next chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s sweeping sci-fi saga is minimal. “I just dipped my toe in,” she said, explaining that her character, Lady Jessica, was not originally expected to appear in the third installment at all.
Instead, Villeneuve ultimately asked her to return for a single scene—something Ferguson embraced professionally, even if it felt strange on a personal level.
“There’s a lot of FOMO,” she admitted. “Walking onto a set that you know so well, and knowing that you don’t have a part of it… you just have to serve the story.”
It’s a notable shift for an actress who played a central role in both Dune and Dune: Part Two. As Lady Jessica, Ferguson portrayed a powerful Bene Gesserit figure and mother to Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet.
Her presence was key to grounding the emotional and political stakes of the first two films.
Now, with Dune: Part Three drawing from Dune Messiah, the story shifts focus—something Ferguson seems to accept, even if it’s bittersweet.
Despite her smaller role, she had nothing but praise for Villeneuve, calling him a “master” and highlighting the collaborative energy he fosters on set. It’s that creative trust, she suggested, that makes stepping back easier.
The third film is already surrounded by heavy buzz, with fans eagerly awaiting its release and a new trailer set to drop soon. The cast remains stacked, including Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Jason Momoa, among others.
While Ferguson’s time on screen may be brief, her comments reflect a larger truth about long-running franchises: even key players sometimes have to step aside as the story evolves.
