Tate McRae earns her first Grammy nomination for “Just Keep Watching,” despite her No. 1 album ‘So Close to What’ being completely shut out.

Tate McRae just hit a major milestone in her career — her first-ever Grammy nomination! But in a twist no one saw coming, it’s not for her chart-topping album So Close to What.
The 21-year-old Canadian pop star received a nod for Best Dance Pop Recording for her single “Just Keep Watching,” featured in the upcoming Brad Pitt film F1.
McRae shared the news on Instagram Stories on Friday afternoon, writing, “Grammy nominated!!!!!! Thank u!!!!!!!!!!!!!! @recordingacademy,” along with a flood of heart emojis.
The track has already been a big win for her — it previously snagged two VMAs, including Song of the Summer and Best Editing.
At the Grammys, McRae will be going up against Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s “Bluest Flame,” Lady Gaga’s “Abracadabra,” Zara Larsson’s “Midnight Sun,” and PinkPantheress’ “Illegal.”
Fans were surprised — and a little frustrated — to see that So Close to What, her most successful album yet, received zero nominations.
The record, released on February 21, became her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart. It includes standout tracks like “Revolving Door,” “It’s OK I’m OK,” and “Sports Car.”
McRae’s promo run was massive too, featuring show-stopping performances on SNL, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and even the VMAs.
Some fans thought she was snubbed in the Best New Artist category, but technically, McRae wasn’t eligible. Artists can only be submitted for that award up to three times, and Tate already hit her limit.
Right now, McRae is wrapping up her massive Miss Possessive Tour, which kicked off in Mexico City on March 18. The final show is set for Saturday, Nov. 8, in Inglewood, California, marking the end of an 83-date global run.
The singer’s setlist even includes her newest single “Tit for Tat,” rumored to be about a recent breakup — because, of course, what’s a pop tour without a little heartbreak anthem?
Even with the album snub, a Grammy nod is still a huge win for McRae — and with her next era likely already in the works, this could just be the beginning of her awards season glow-up.
What do you think — was Tate McRae’s album unfairly snubbed by the Grammys? Sound off in the comments!
