Tom Morello is once again at the center of a political debate—this time over a phrase used at a Department of Homeland Security press conference that he says carries a dark historical echo.

The Rage Against the Machine guitarist shared an Instagram post on Jan. 12 criticizing what he described as a “verbatim Nazi mass murder slogan” displayed on a podium behind DHS Secretary Kristi Noem during a recent news conference. The phrase, “One of ours, all of yours,” was visible as Noem addressed reporters.

Morello alleged the words originated in Nazi Germany, claiming they were used after the killing of an SS officer and preceded the execution of male villagers in retaliation. “If there are any MAGA left after THIS, you have made an irrevocable choice,” he wrote, framing the issue as a moral turning point for Trump supporters.

The musician’s post also included a photo from one of his performances, showing a profane anti-Trump message taped to his guitar, alongside a quote from Ernest Hemingway’s For Whom the Bell Tolls about the hidden rise of fascism.

The combination underscored Morello’s long-running opposition to the former president and to U.S. immigration enforcement agencies.

DHS quickly pushed back. In a statement to Billboard, the department dismissed the accusation, saying, “Calling everything you dislike ‘Nazi propaganda’ is tiresome.” The agency added that it would “continue to use all tools to communicate with the American people” while promoting its public safety mission. The White House was also contacted for comment.

Historians have not publicly confirmed the exact origins of the slogan. The SS, the Nazi organization Morello referenced, played a central role in the Holocaust and the operation of concentration camps, according to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The museum has been asked to clarify whether the phrase has documented ties to Nazi-era reprisals.

The press conference took place on Jan. 8, following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, an unarmed U.S. citizen, by an ICE officer during an immigration operation in Minneapolis. The incident has fueled nationwide protests, while DHS and Donald Trump have said the officer acted in self-defense.

Morello has been outspoken on immigration issues for years. Though Rage Against the Machine disbanded in 2024, his activism continues—proof that even without the band, his voice remains loud, political, and deeply polarizing.
