Trevor Noah brought laughs to the Grammys, tossing a sharp joke Nicki Minaj’s way while wrapping up his final turn as host.
Trevor Noah proved once again why he’s been one of the Grammys’ most reliable hosts, blending warmth, humor, and just a touch of bite during the opening moments of the 68th Annual Grammy Awards.
While Noah has often steered clear of heavy politics on music’s biggest night, he surprised viewers by slipping in a pointed — and clearly tongue-in-cheek — joke about Nicki Minaj, who was noticeably absent from the ceremony at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
Scanning the room packed with music’s biggest stars, Noah paused to note Minaj’s absence. “Nicki Minaj is not here,” he said, before joking that she was still at the White House with Donald Trump, mockingly imagining the two debating “very important issues.”
The line drew laughs from the crowd and instantly lit up social media, where fans debated whether the jab crossed a line or landed perfectly.
Minaj has been at the center of conversation in recent months due to her public support of Donald Trump and the MAGA movement — a shift that has divided her fanbase and made her political views part of the pop culture discourse.
Noah’s comment reflected that buzz without turning the night into a full political debate.
The moment stood out even more because Noah’s hosting style is typically upbeat and inclusive. Last year, his monologue was noticeably restrained following devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, though he did briefly reference Trump-era tariffs.
This year, with the Grammys returning to a more celebratory tone, Noah allowed himself a sharper punchline.
The Feb. 1 ceremony marked Noah’s sixth — and final — time hosting the Grammys. Executive producer Ben Winston previously praised Noah’s run, calling him “smart, funny, and a true fan of the artists and music.”
As Noah prepares to step away from the Grammys stage, his final monologue served as a reminder of what he brought to the show: humor that reflects the cultural moment, delivered with confidence and charm.
Meanwhile, the night belonged to the music. Kendrick Lamar led nominations with nine, including record, song, and album of the year, as the industry gathered to celebrate another standout year.
