In a move that surprises absolutely no one following the ratings, CBS has officially greenlit a second season of Marshals.

The pickup comes just 12 days after the series premiere, proving that the appetite for Taylor Sheridan’s universe remains insatiable.

The drama, which sees Luke Grimes reprise his fan-favorite role as Kayce Dutton, didn’t just premiere—it exploded. According to the latest data from the Eye network, the March 1 debut pulled in a massive 20.6 million multiplatform viewers within its first week across CBS and Paramount+.

Breaking Records Without the NFL

What makes these numbers even more impressive is the context. CBS noted that Marshals is now the most-watched broadcast original series premiere to launch without an NFL lead-in since Young Sheldon back in 2017.

Essentially, the show didn’t need football to find its audience; the “Yellowstone” brand and Grimes’ star power did the heavy lifting. On the streaming side, the premiere now holds the title for the most-streamed episode of any CBS program in the history of Paramount+.

The Power of “Range Justice”

“’Marshals’ delivered a breakout performance, capturing a massive audience across platforms,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach. She credited the success to the “bold character-driven storytelling” and the dynamic performance of Grimes, who anchors the series.

In this new chapter, Grimes’ Kayce Dutton pivots from the ranch to an elite U.S. Marshals unit. The show blends his background as a Navy SEAL with his cowboy roots to bring a unique brand of “range justice” to Montana.

The Heavy-Hitting Cast and Crew

While Grimes is the face of the show, the ensemble cast is packed with familiar powerhouses, including Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, and Yellowstone staples like Gil Birmingham and Mo Brings Plenty.

Behind the scenes, the production is a collaborative powerhouse between Paramount TV Studios and 101 Studios, with Taylor Sheridan, David Glasser, and John Linson leading the executive producer team.

With a Season 2 already locked in, the “Sheridan-verse” shows no signs of slowing down, securing CBS’s spot at the top of the midseason charts alongside their other heavy hitter, Tracker.
