CBS has renewed its daytime soap opera Beyond the Gates for two additional seasons, keeping it on air through the 2027–2028 broadcast season. The announcement came during a programming event held in Los Angeles.

The show first premiered in 2025 and was created by Michele Val Jean. Beyond the Gates stands out as the first new daytime soap opera to launch on a major TV network since Passions in 1999. It is also among the few shows to feature a predominantly African American cast — a rarity not seen since “Generations,” which aired on NBC from 1989 to 1991.

The story centers on the Dupree family, who live in a fictional gated community in a Maryland suburb just outside Washington, D.C. The narrative follows their relationships and the events shaping their lives within that setting.

Tamara Tunie and Clifton Davis lead the cast as family heads Anita and Vernon Dupree. Their children are played by Daphnée Duplaix and Karla Mosley, with a broader ensemble rounding out the show.

The series has also caught the eye of critics. In a 2025 review, TV critic Aramide Tinubu wrote that the show feels unlike most soap operas — going beyond dramatic plots and romance to deliver something more grounded. The review also pointed out that the series holds its ground at a time when minority-led shows are increasingly hard to find on TV.

At the same event, CBS unveiled its full 2026–2027 fall primetime schedule, including a new “NCIS” spinoff set in New York starring LL Cool J and Scott Caan, alongside previously announced series “Cupertino,” “Einstein,” and “Eternally Yours.”

The two-season renewal puts Beyond the Gates among the more stable entries in CBS’s daytime lineup — and a continued marker of diverse storytelling on American television.
