DC Studios‘ highly anticipated sequel “The Batman Part II” has landed another major name. Sources tell Deadline that Charles Dance — the veteran British actor best known for playing Tywin Lannister in “Game of Thrones” — is in talks to join the Matt Reeves-directed follow-up. The casting signals that the sequel is shaping up to be a serious contender in terms of star power.

Should the deal close, Dance would play Charles Dent, father to Gotham District Attorney Harvey Dent, who will be portrayed by Sebastian Stan. Scarlett Johansson is on board to play Dent’s wife, while Robert Pattinson returns as the Caped Crusader.

DC co-chairs James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing alongside Dylan Clark. Reeves is writing and directing. Production is set to begin this spring, with the film scheduled to open in theaters on October 1, 2027. DC Studios declined to comment on the casting.

Reeves’ “The Batman” (2022) was Warner Bros.’ first major theatrical blockbuster post-Covid — released during a period when the studio had adopted a day-and-date strategy on HBO Max. The Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz-led film earned $369.3 million domestically and $772 million worldwide, a landmark performance for the DC label.

Dance built global recognition playing Tywin Lannister — one of the most powerful and calculating figures in all of Westeros — on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” Slotting him into an equally commanding role in Gotham City reads as intuitive casting to industry observers.

Most recently, Dance starred as Dr. Frankenstein’s father in Guillermo del Toro’s Oscar-nominated “Frankenstein” and appeared on the Peacock series “Day of the Jackal.”

The casting is the latest move in the broader restructuring effort led by Gunn and Safran as they build a unified DC Universe from the ground up. With a star-studded ensemble already assembled, “The Batman Part II” appears positioned to surpass its predecessor’s box office performance when it arrives in fall 2027.

Charles Dance is represented by Tavistock Wood Management.
