The upcoming film set in the Game of Thrones world now has a title. The project has been given the working title Game of Thrones: Aegon’s Conquest, revealed at a recent major film industry event where upcoming projects were presented.
The title is not final and could change in the coming months or years. That said, this is the first time the Game of Thrones universe is being developed for the big screen as a large-scale cinematic film, and it is part of a wider slate of planned movies.
The film will center on a key figure from George R. R. Martin’s book series A Song of Ice and Fire — Aegon I Targaryen, the conqueror who united the kingdoms of Westeros under one rule.
The Targaryen family is one of the most powerful royal houses in the Game of Thrones world, known for dragon-riding and the tradition of marrying within the family. Their history has already been explored in TV prequels House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.

Aegon I Targaryen’s story is covered extensively in Martin’s book Fire and Blood, which traces the reigns of multiple Targaryen rulers. Aegon forged the iconic Iron Throne from the melted weapons of his enemies and ruled alongside his two sister-wives, Visenya and Rhaenys, both queens in their own right.
After Aegon’s death, his descendants continued to rule Westeros for generations. Several of his successors also carried the name Aegon, keeping the dynastic name alive.
The screenplay will be written by Beau Willimon, previously the showrunner of political drama House of Cards and a writer on the sci-fi series Andor.
On the TV side, Season 3 of House of the Dragon is expected soon, and a second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has already been greenlit.
For fans of the franchise, the film is a big deal — the first time this world is making the jump to cinema.
