Louis C.K. returns to Netflix with new special “Ridiculous” and a major Hollywood Bowl show, marking his first big comeback since 2017 controversy.

Comedian Louis C.K. is set to return to Netflix with a new stand-up special titled Ridiculous, which will premiere on the platform this summer.
Alongside the special, C.K. will also headline a live comedy show at the Hollywood Bowl on May 5. The performance is part of the Netflix Is a Joke Fest.
C.K. has been touring this material for nearly a year, performing in theaters, arenas, and smaller stadiums across the United States. Ridiculous will be his first special released by a major distributor since 2017, when he last worked with Netflix.
After 2017, C.K. began releasing his stand-up specials independently. That shift came following a sexual misconduct scandal that significantly impacted his career and relationships within the entertainment industry.
In 2017, The New York Times published allegations from five women accusing C.K. of sexual misconduct. Some of the women said he had masturbated in front of them. Shortly after the report, C.K. issued a statement acknowledging the incidents and apologizing, writing that the stories were true.
He said he had believed his actions were acceptable because he asked for permission, but later recognized the power imbalance involved and admitted he “wielded that power irresponsibly.”
Following the controversy, Netflix and FX ended their professional relationships with him, while HBO removed his content and canceled his planned appearance. His manager also dropped him, the release of his film “I Love You Daddy” was canceled, and his animated project “The Cops” was scrapped.
C.K. stayed largely out of the public spotlight for several years before making a gradual return through unannounced performances at comedy clubs. These appearances often received strong audience reactions, including standing ovations, while also drawing criticism online.
In 2020, he released the special “Sincerely Louis C.K.” on his own website, where he addressed the controversy early in the set. He followed it with additional self-released specials, including “Sorry” in 2021 and “Louis C.K. at The Dolby” and “Back to the Garden” in 2023.
Although C.K. has continued to perform to large audiences worldwide in the years since the scandal, Ridiculous on Netflix marks his first major return to a mainstream Hollywood distributor.
