HBO Max’s The Pitt has officially submitted its Emmy campaign for 2026, and this year, star Noah Wyle is going after two categories at once Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Directing for a Drama Series.
No other lead actor on the show has made a dual acting-directing Emmy bid this season, making Wyle’s submission one of the most ambitious in this year’s drama field.
Wyle directed Episode 206, titled “12:00 P.M.,” in The Pitt‘s second season. He already writes two episodes per season and serves as an executive producer, cementing his status as the rare performer who also functions as a full creative force behind the camera.
The move comes as the show rides extraordinary momentum. Reported by Deadline Last year, The Pitt converted five wins from 15 nominations at the 2025 Emmys, taking home Outstanding Drama Series along with trophies for Wyle, supporting actress Katherine LaNasa, and guest actor Shawn Hatosy.

For 2026, every series regular has been entered in the acting race. LaNasa, Patrick Ball, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez, Isa Briones, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, Supriya Ganesh, and Sepideh Moafi are all submitted under Supporting Actor or Actress in a Drama Series.
Hatosy, who won Guest Actor last year, has shifted categories entirely for 2026. The expanded scope of his role as Dr. Jack in Season 2 qualified him for the Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category — a significant upgrade that sets up a potential rivalry with his own castmates Ball and Howell.
The directing slate this year is equally deep. Wyle, Hatosy, Uta Briesewitz, Damian Marcano, and executive producer John Wells — nominated last year for helming the series premiere — are all submitted for Directing for a Drama Series.
On the writing side, showrunner R. Scott Gemmill, who earned a nomination last year for the series premiere, returns with a co-written submission alongside Kirsten Pierre-Geyfman for Episode 207. A second writing submission covers Valerie Chu’s script for Episode 206.
Two new categories enter The Pitt‘s Emmy campaign this year. The song “Need Someone,” written by Gavin Brivik and Andrew Bird, has been entered for Original Music and Lyrics. The companion interview series Inside the Pitt has also been submitted for Outstanding Short Form Nonfiction or Reality Series.
Three guest performers who portrayed patients in Season 2 — Ernest Harden Jr., Tal Anderson, and Tina Ivlev — round out the show’s acting submissions.
The Pitt Season 2 concluded its run on HBO Max in April 2026. The Emmy nominations announcement is expected in July.
