The studio’s leadership is focused on building a varied film slate across multiple genres, and this project fits naturally into that push. Senior executives have pointed to the game’s creative vision and its potential to translate well on screen. They believe the story has already connected with millions of players worldwide and can now reach an even broader audience through film.
Grandma’s Favourite Games, a partnership of three New Zealand–based creators, is known for developing several popular titles on Roblox. Founded in 2020, the group has grown into a large development community with millions of members. For them, this project is a real shot at bringing their virtual world to life on screen.
The developers have spoken openly about what this means to them. They noted that Disney and 20th Century films were a big part of growing up, which makes working with the studio hit differently. They’re excited to take 99 Nights in the Forest to a bigger stage and give audiences something they haven’t quite seen before.
This project underscores how tightly gaming and film have become intertwined. The adaptation of 99 Nights in the Forest is the latest sign that digital entertainment and traditional media are no longer operating in separate lanes—and that crossover is opening up fresh ground for storytelling.
