Veteran Hollywood producer Stacey Sher and her Shiny Penny production banner have closed a first-look deal with MGM Television.
Under the agreement, Sher will develop and produce television series for the studio across all platforms — a strategically significant move that stands to meaningfully strengthen MGM Television’s content portfolio.
Variety confirmed the partnership. MGM Television president Lindsay Sloane praised Sher as a “visionary producer” who has spent three decades bringing bold, culturally resonant stories to the screen. Sloane noted that Sher’s ability to craft unforgettable storytelling for global audiences made the partnership a natural fit.
“Stacey is a visionary producer with an extraordinary track record of bringing bold, culturally resonant stories to life across film and television,” said Sloane. “Her ability to champion distinctive voices and deliver unforgettable storytelling has shaped some of the most iconic projects of the past three decades. We’re thrilled to partner with her and look forward to the incredible stories we’ll create together for our global audience.”
Sher is a two-time Academy Award nominee — first for Erin Brockovich in 2001 and again for Django Unchained in 2013. Her producing credits span some of cinema’s most enduring titles, including Pulp Fiction, The Hateful Eight, Out of Sight, Garden State, Reality Bites, Gattaca, and Get Shorty.
Most recently, she produced the A24 horror film Heretic, starring Hugh Grant. She is also producing Verity for Amazon MGM Studios, a highly anticipated feature headlined by Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett.
Sher’s television résumé is equally formidable. Her producing credits include Mrs. America, Into the Badlands, Sweet/Vicious, Reno 911, and Skylanders Academy — a diverse slate that positions her as a valuable creative asset for MGM Television’s expanding ambitions.
Katie Aquino serves as creative executive of film and television at Shiny Penny. Having served as associate producer on both Heretic and Verity, Aquino is set to executive produce Amazon MGM Studios’ reimagining of Baby Boom.
She launched her career in the television talent department at CAA before joining Shiny Penny in 2021.
