DC Studios is moving fast on its “Superman” sequel — Adria Arjona has been cast in a key but still mysterious role. The film, titled “Man of Tomorrow,” has James Gunn at the helm.

It’s shaping up to be DC Studios’ next big production. After a lengthy casting search with multiple screen test rounds, Arjona landed the part. However, no confirmed details about her character have been released so far.

Earlier reports had suggested that Arjona might portray the comic-book anti-heroine Maxima, but this has not been confirmed. DC Studios has declined to comment on the speculation, keeping fans guessing.

In early April, several actresses participated in screen tests held in Atlanta. The shortlist included Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten.

The film will see David Corenswet return as Superman, while Nicholas Hoult will take on the role of Lex Luthor. The story brings these adversaries together as they face a larger threat—Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger.

Several familiar faces from the “Superman” universe are also set to return. Rachel Brosnahan returns as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific. In addition, Aaron Pierre will appear as Green Lantern John Stewart.

If Arjona is indeed playing Maxima, it would push the story into full-on cosmic territory. The character was first introduced in 1989 in “Action Comics No. 645” by writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez. Maxima is depicted as an alien queen who has been both an adversary and a potential romantic interest for Superman.

“Man of Tomorrow” is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. It serves as a sequel to last year’s “Superman,” which grossed $618.7 million worldwide. DC Studios also has several other projects lined up, including “Supergirl” set for release in June, “Clayface” scheduled for October 23, and “The Batman: Part II” planned for October 2027.

Arjona appeared last year in the second season of the “Star Wars” series “Andor” and also starred alongside Dakota Johnson in the comedy “Splitsville.” She’s got a packed slate in post, including a remake of “The Thomas Crown Affair,” directed by Michael B. Jordan, and the Adam Wingard thriller “Onslaught.”

Arjona is represented by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners, Anonymous Content, and Goodman Genow.
