The prequel series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” set in the world of “Game of Thrones,” has hit a major roadblock.

According to reports, production on its second season has been shut down following a severe natural disaster, putting its future timeline in question.

The series is based on the “Dunk and Egg” stories by author George R. R. Martin and covers events set before the events of “Game of Thrones.” Its first season was met with strong praise from both viewers and critics. Each episode drew a large number of viewers, ranking it among HBO‘s biggest premieres, while also earning high ratings on review platforms.

Reports indicate that filming for the second season initially began in Belfast, Northern Ireland, before moving to Gran Canaria, Spain, to better suit the look and feel the story demands. The location was chosen for its dry, barren landscape that fits the narrative. However, the region was recently hit by “Storm Therese,” bringing unusually heavy rainfall the area hadn’t seen in 15 years. This caused severe flooding and damage near the Las Niñas Dam, forcing the crew to stop filming altogether.

Parts of the set are now underwater. The production team must submit a detailed action plan for dismantling the set, which will only move forward once water levels drop and conditions are safe. Additionally, 50 Canary Island pine trees have been planted as part of environmental compensation, along with other forestry work in the area.

With all of this unfolding, the release timeline for season two is now up in the air. HBO had originally targeted a 2027 release, but the shutdown could push that back further.

That said, reports suggest a significant chunk of season two had already wrapped, with the crew expected to finish up by June 2026. HBO has yet to put out an official statement on the situation.

Showrunner Ira Parker has talked about building this into a long-running series, pointing out that the source material is rich enough to span multiple seasons. The story is expected to track the character “Egg” through different phases of his life.

For now, the first season of “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” is streaming on HBO Max, as fans wait to hear more about what’s next for season two.
