The first trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero dropped at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where theater owners from across the globe packed into Caesars Palace.

This film is a direct sequel to the 2023 Japanese movie Godzilla Minus One, which became a massive global hit and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Along with the trailer, attendees at CinemaCon were shown a behind-the-scenes reel featuring the large-scale sets and props created for the film, including bomber jets, destroyed cities, and a miniature Godzilla model. According to director Takashi Yamazaki, the story of “Minus Zero” takes place two years after the events of “Minus One” and continues the journey of survivors from the previous kaiju attack. In the final moments of the trailer, Godzilla is seen approaching the Statue of Liberty, making it clear New York City is next.

Godzilla Minus Zero is the 37th entry in the Godzilla franchise and the 33rd produced by the Japanese company Toho. While “Minus One” was made on a budget of about $15 million, the new film is working with a bigger budget. The previous installment earned $116 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing Japanese Godzilla film ever.

The film has also been shot in IMAX format, making it the first Japanese film to do so.

The cast includes Ryunosuke Kamiki, who plays a former kamikaze pilot, along with Minami Hamabe, Munetaka Aoki, and Hidetaka Yoshioka.

At the 2023 Academy Awards, Godzilla Minus One became the first non-English language film to win Best Visual Effects, surpassing films like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, The Creator, Napoleon, and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.

Godzilla Minus Zero is scheduled to release in the United States on November 6 and in Japan on November 3. On the Hollywood side, Godzilla X Kong: Supernova is set to release next year under Warner Bros. and Legendary’s Monsterverse.
